Become a TIP Volunteer

TIP volunteers are a group of well-trained and screened individuals called by emergency personnel to provide immediate on-scene support to emotionally traumatized individuals on a 24-hour 365-day a year basis.

Who are TIP Volunteers

TIP volunteers are people of all ages and occupations who are called in to traumatic events by first responders to provide:

  • Emotional Support
  • Help arrange for shelter, food, clothing, and transportation.
  • Notify family and friends.
  • Serve as liaison between the victims and emergency and hospital authorities.
  • Help arrange follow-up services.
  • Provide information and referrals to appropriate agencies for ongoing assistance.

What does it take to Volunteer

Over a 2 week period, you will go through an intense 36-hour training by certified TIP National Trainers on Emotional First Aid and Practical Care Support. After completion, volunteers enter into a 3-Month Field Training Program where each trainee is paired up with a veteran volunteer. After the completion of the field training program, trainees graduate as TIP Volunteers. This ensures that all volunteers are well prepared and ready to respond to 911 Emergency Calls with confidence and assurance.

TIP Volunteers must also:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Clean criminal and driving record
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Cell phone and internet access
  • Commit to three 12-hour shifts a month
  • Attend a monthly continuing education (CE) meeting
  • Pay a $50 training fee to cover your training materials
